Emma Barrett (she/her)

Creative Associate

Emma Barrett is a recent graduate of Te Auaha with a Bachelor of Creativity in Stage and Screen. She has a background in drag, improv, and clowning that she strives to encompass in her work. Her art is a subtle response to the world around her, which she approaches with a feminist and comedic lens. Emma hopes through comedy, she can encourage people to think about their impact on the world and question societal norms.

From 2017 - 2018, she coordinated The Newtown Vintage Market. She then moved on to study acting and founded Warped Productions with the intention of producing unique grassroots theatre. She has worked with Barbarian Productions on projects such as The Egg Fruit and recently debuted her development project Community in the 2021 NZ Fringe Festival.

As a performer and member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Emma understands the value of art to marginalized communities. Art is not just entertainment, but empowerment. She hopes that Magnificent Weirdos’ workshop scheme can cultivate joy and empower marginalized communities.
